My "kitten" turned 1!

I'm going to start today's blog post with a disclaimer:  I don't yet have kids.  This will be a key piece of information if you are to read this blog and not think I'm a total crazy loon.

Because I don't yet have kids, I don't get to partake in any of the fun kids birthday parties and preparations.  With the invention (addicting invention, I might add) of Pinterest, I have found many an inspiration but seldom an opportunity.  

So today, I decided to celebrate the momentous occasion of my cute "little kitten" turning 1.  Happy 1st birthday, Dolce!!  (as an informative tangent:  Dolce means soft and sweet in Italian.)

To celebrate, we took her to Petco yesterday to get weighed, one last time as a kitten.  She weighed 11.46 pounds.  And I'm not entirely sure that was completely accurate, as they had her tail resting on the counter.  We also got her a new collar (she has outgrown her kitten one) and picked up a free can of wet cat food as a special treat.

I also decided to make her a cake.  Well....in all honesty, I made a cake for my husband and myself.  It would be a pretty dumb idea to let her eat chocolate cake.  But I figured, while she gets to chow down on her fancy Salmon and Turkey wet food, Blair and I should be able to enjoy a treat too.  :)

And I couldn't go without trying to make it look cute!  I made a triple chocolate cake, with coconut pecan frosting.

The frosting was to mimic her hair.  hehe  And I put an 'M' on the forehead!

I think she's impressed!

1st bday card

Two days ago I posted about the cross-stitch birth record I made for my nephew (Josef), for his first birthday.  You can see the photo here.

In addition, I wanted to make him a birthday card.  We've always told Josef that he has bird hair.  Cute little, whispy and fine bird hair.  So I decided to make it a bird themed card.  :)

You're 1!

I used my Cricut Expression to cut out this card and it's designs.  I used 'Just Because Cards' cartridge to cut out the card itself and the front design.  And I used 'Plantin SchoolBook' cartridge for the inside word and number.

Josef, happy 1st birthday!!!  I hope you know how much of a blessing you are to our family and just how much your awesome Aunt Sarah LOVES you!!  :)

Birth record for Josef

One of my all-time favourite titles in life is Aunt.  I just absolutely love being called Aunt Sarah!  Or...Say Say / Sawah / any variation that comes out of their sweet little mouths.  Melts me when I hear it!

When my first nephew (Marc-Andre) was born, I wanted to make something for him.  Something to show him that I was so excited that he was joining the family.  Something he could keep forever.

I still have a pillow that was made and given to me when I was born.  It has a little music box inside and a cross-stitch section on top with my name and birth date.  I'm 28 years old and I still have it.  Granted, the music box doesn't work anymore and the pillow has lost some of it's stuffing.  But I love it.  

I wanted to do something like that for my little nephew.  And I did.  I cross-stitched an under-the-sea blanket for him (that was the nursery theme my sister picked out).  :)  If you know me, you know traditions are incredibly important to me.  Soooo, what I did for my first, I swore I'd continue to do for the rest.  I've made a cross-stitch item for every nephew and niece since then.  (5 in total.  just started working on the 6th)

Here's the latest cross-stitch birth record that I've completed.  It's for my nephew, Josef Daniel.  He's a super cute, always smiling, speed-racing crawler who has melted my heart since day one.  Josef, you are such a joy and a blessing!  I hope you know that Aunt Sarah LOVES you soooooooooooooo much!!!
